Monforte d'Alba

Built as roman “pagus” on top of a steep hill, Monforte d’Alba inherited its present denomination during early Middle Ages when it was an important military bulwark. Due to its fortifications and to its defence structures, the town got the name “ Mons Fortis”. During the year 1000 a.d. (precisely 1028) Monforte saw the development, under Gerardo’s guide, of a strong community of “Catari”. Its members, blamed of heresy, were arrested, prosecuted and condemned to the stake by the archbishop of Milan, Ariberto d’Antignano.

During late Middle Ages, Monforte d’Alba was owned by the marquis of Cortemilia, the town of Alba, the Visconti of Milano and finally the marquis Del Carretto.

The Holiday Farm Ca’ Brusà is located on a path, that during ‘200, had a great importance for its links to the central towns of Langa especially when the town of Alba was trying to keep free the roads to Liguria.

Two hundred meters from the farm, the little church of Madonna di Pansoglio reminds of a disappeared strategic area - already mentioned on a few documents dated XIII century - that rose on the west part of the farm. The name of the church is probably linked to that wartime.
